Abstract:
This talk reviews the history of political parallelism in the Turkish press
from the appearance of first newspapers in 1830s to the general
elections of 2002. It is based upon a survey of general histories of the
Turkish press and other additional sources, and codes authors'
evaluations and observations concerning individual newspapers'
political positions, their content, oganizational connections that
papers have with political actors, and legal/violent actions taken
by political actors against papers.
